Stories of Vietnam: A Documentary Trip (New Winterim Trip Added this Fall)
This trip is a special collaboration project with the International Boarding Program, for the purpose of building bridges with our growing family network in Vietnam. We will be hosted by WA families in Hanoi, who will take us on a journey to experience firsthand the stories that influence modern society in Vietnam — stories of history, economics, and value systems. Following our stay in Hanoi, we will take public transportation through the countryside of Northern Vietnam, traveling to the mountain villages and rice terraces of Sapa, where we will experience a very different perspective with the ethnic minorities and farming communities of this iconic travel destination. Students will be expected to play a highly proactive role in the relational aspects and documentation of this trip. Experience with videography, editing, and social media preferred. As of September 8, 2022, Vietnam does NOT require COVID vaccinations, COVID testing, or a quarantine period before entering the country.

Replacement Surface pens, batteries, and chargers are available for sale in the Wheaton Academy I.T. Department, using PushCoin as payment.

Donations and Volunteers Needed for Homecoming Tailgate
Project Lead Global is hosting a Homecoming family tailgate fundraiser before the Thursday night football game on September 22 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. All proceeds raised will go towards the 24 vulnerable children Wheaton Academy sponsors in the DR and Haiti through Kids Alive International.  We are looking for donations of food and supplies and parent volunteers to help assist in preparing and serving the food and helping with clean-up. Please click here to sign up to donate and/or serve.   If you have any questions please contact, Valerie Gregersen.

Local Service Opportunity
Project Lead LOCAL will be working closely with the Replanted ministry this year, and we are hoping to get both students and their families involved in service!

Replanted serves foster and adoptive families in the Chicagoland area.  Replanted will be hosting support groups for foster and adoptive parents once a month – on the 3rd Friday of the month, from 6:00-8:00 pm at Church of the Rez in Wheaton.  We are looking for volunteers to serve in the children’s program while their parents meet in small groups.  This would entail working with kids ages 0-12, and leading games, activities, and crafts. There will only be 8 groups meeting from September – May throughout the year.

It is a great way to work with and support kids of all different backgrounds and to have fun while serving in an important and life-giving ministry.  This is also ideal for any students who have an interest in psychology, social work, or education in the future!

To sign up and learn more, please contact Hollee Ball at Hball@wheatonacademy.org, or 630-562-7568.

Parent Partnerships
We love for our parents to be actively involved in Wheaton Academy. A few specific ways you can partner with us this year are:

First, pray for us.  In addition to praying for us each day, there are several opportunities for corporate prayer at WA.

  • We have two options for women
    • Every Tuesday at 1:30 pm in the white chapel
    • Every 3rd Saturday from 9:00-10:00 am in the white chapel
  • For men, we have set aside the 2nd Saturday of the month from 8:00-9:00 am in Alumni White Chapel

Second, we have many options for you to volunteer throughout the year. You can locate these on our website Parent Volunteer Opportunities – wheatonfamily (wheatonacademy.org)

Lastly, we welcome your financial support.  More information on the various opportunities for support can be found here on our website Make a Gift – Wheaton Academy.

ACT/SAT Course
There are spaces left in our ACT/SAT Small Group fall class! We will introduce both college admission tests to the students and go over tips and strategies for them. We will also teach the students how to practice at home. There will be some homework given.

Dates for the fall class: Wednesdays (6:00-8:00 pm) September 7, 14, 21, 28, and October 5 with a special Tuesday night class the night before the PSAT (October 11).

Visit thecenterforlifelonglearning.org to register your student. Your payment is your registration.

Off-Campus Learning Days
Once again this year, we are excited to provide our students with the opportunity to participate in Off-Campus Learning Days. These days afford our students time for uninterrupted learning on days they typically would have off for in-service/teacher conferences. Additionally, our Off-Campus Learning Days will prepare our students to seamlessly continue in their classes during snow/inclement weather days.

Our first Off-Campus Learning Day this year will take place on Monday, September 12. Students should plan to allocate the same amount of time for schoolwork as they would for a traditional on-campus day (approximately 7 hours). Teachers will make expectations clear to our students, and they will be able to access all work via OnCampus.

We are requesting that all parents who are picking up and/or dropping off students before and after school please use the Hawthorne Avenue entrance ONLY. We are looking to keep open the north drive lane entirely for fire and police should that be needed. Pick-up and drop-off can occur in the central lot circle (please pull all the way through the lot), north drive main entrance circle (please pull all the way through), or in front of the Field House.  Please exit campus out Prince Crossing Road and head to the right out Prince Crossing Road. Should you anticipate waiting longer than 5 minutes, please pull into an open parking spot. Student drivers can still enter campus via either entrance to come to park.

Please click here for a campus map. Thank you for your assistance!

Announcing The Center for Lifelong Learning
This summer, the Tutoring Center changed its name to The Center for Lifelong Learning and adopted a broader vision, developed more offerings, and built a new space in which to supplement the advancement of your student’s academic performance. The Center’s mission is to be the academic performance center that builds lifelong learners. While we will still provide instruction in specific subjects, The Center will now work with students to address the different forces that come to bear on a student’s progress and ability to learn and function in an increasingly complex educational, college and career environment.

New for this academic year:

  • Academic Progress Testing and Planning. The Center is introducing the NWEA MAP Growth test as a tool to assess the level and progress of a student, regularly chart goals, and engineer learning to improve academic progress and performance.
  • Executive Functioning. Our Academic Coaches will teach students executive functioning skills, equipping them to be successful learners.
  • Learning Methods. Based on a student’s level and aptitude, our Academic Couches will adjust our approach to learning using adaptive learning and competency-based learning methods.
  • Unlimited Access.  We now offer unlimited access packages to enable students to use our services more frequently and conveniently in our expanded space.

Please visit our website, thecenterforlifelonglearning.org, to learn more about what we offer. We would love for you to come check out our new location in Wheaton Academy’s library and/or sign up for a free consultation.

Important Information Regarding Class Schedules
Class schedules are now available in OnCampus. These are not final. As we finalize enrollment and balancing of classes, periods and teachers may change.

Please have your student go look at both Semester 1 and Semester 2. If they have “Contact Student Services” as one of their classes, they are either missing a class or have a conflict in their schedule. They can contact Mrs. Roberts, aroberts@wheatonacademy.org, or Mr. Gregersen, bgregersen@wheatonacademy.org to work out their conflict.

If your student has a schedule change request, please fill out this link by August 5. Unfortunately, we will not be able to honor or guarantee all schedule change requests due to class sizes and how they may fit in their schedule, but we will do our best to accommodate. No schedule changes will be made between August 5 and August 24.
