PSAT Results
Dear Wheaton Academy Families,
This past October many of our students participated in the PSAT suite of assessments offered by the College Board. These tests help us monitor student growth and progress over time and can provide both us and you with insight into areas of strength and growth for your student.  We are happy to let you know that test results are available for viewing and can be accessed through your student’s College Board profile. (studentscores.collegeboard.org ).

The College Board implemented a new test format this year; all PSAT Fall testing was completed digitally, and the updated format allowed for test redesign. College Board piloted these changes, and they are confident that the scores on the new tests are comparable to previous assessments. We will keep you informed of any new information that becomes available as they analyze the results from this fall.

As you access and seek to understand test results, please let us know if you have questions.  You can reach out to Vice Principal Brad Thornton (bthornton@wheatonacademy.org) with questions.

Thank you,
Brad Thornton

Financial Aid Applications are Now Open — Returning Families Deadline of December 31

A Note from Kahn Academy
Starting this year, the College Board has begun transitioning the SAT from a traditional paper-and-pencil test format to a digital version.

In response to the paper test retiring in December 2023, we will be retiring Official SAT Practice, which we built to prepare learners for that version of the test. But don’t worry, we’re still here to support learners for the new digital SAT! Going forward, learners preparing for the digital SAT can answer practice questions and get helpful tips in our Official Digital SAT Math and Official Digital SAT Reading and Writing courses.

But since we are discontinuing Official SAT Practice, we want to make sure that its users have the opportunity to save their progress and reports. We recommend screenshotting, printing, or downloading any Official SAT Practice data in your Khan Academy account that you wish to save before December 31st, 2023, after which the data will no longer be accessible. You can find more information in this support article.

Thank you for your understanding and your trust in Khan Academy. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact our Support team. Best regards,
The Khan Academy team

The WA Appreciation Team manages these events on behalf of ALL Wheaton Academy families and represents our collective gratitude.

We are already planning our first event, in December, where we serve coffee, donuts, and a Christmas blessing. You will also be hearing from us this spring, as we begin to plan an appreciation luncheon in April.

These events are funded solely through contributions from the school community (which are completely optional and not tax-deductible). Please click on the CheddarUp link to provide funds that will contribute towards making these events possible. Thank you!

Student IDs
Has your student lost or broken their ID?  Please help keep WA secure by reporting lost IDs to the WA I.T. Department on the second floor of the academic building, next to room 202.  Lost or broken IDs are $12 to replace, we accept only PushCoin. Students can stop by the I.T. office and we can print the new ID as soon as they pay with PushCoin.  It takes 5 to 10 minutes.

Senior Picture Submission

If you have a timeshare, a privately-owned vacation home, vacation packages, or airline miles, we invite you, as a friend and supporter, to provide our faculty and staff a much-deserved vacation at little or no cost to them. This partnership is a direct opportunity for our teachers and staff and is not a donation to the Academy. Please fill out the Timeshare Participation Form by December 1.

WA Appreciation Team
Allow us to introduce ourselves. We are the WA Appreciation Team, a group of parent volunteers who plan, organize, and host two events during the school year for teachers and staff. These events help express our gratitude for all the ways teachers and staff not only teach, but inspire, nurture, and guide our kids throughout the school year.

Thank you!

From the Desk of the Principal
Dear Parents – During this fall, I have challenged you and our students to think about how and if we use social media. I continue to be convicted of the value of limiting students’ social media intake as data continue to come out with compelling evidence that we help students in this area.  Today, as we continue to pray for the situation in Israel, it has come to our attention that deeply disturbing videos, including footage of hostages, may be spread across social media in the coming days. We strongly encourage you to be vigilant in supervising your students and their use of social media. We suggest you put up additional parental controls and talk with your student about exercising extreme discretion around social media both now and in the future – Kori Hockett

Parent/Student/Teacher Conferences
Monday, October 16-Signups for Conferences Close at Midnight
October 18 and 19 are Conferences

You may still sign up for the Parent/Student/Teacher Conference until Monday at midnight. Please click here for details on how to sign up. There will be an Off-Campus Learning Day on Wednesday, October 18, as we want students to attend the conferences with their parents. There are no classes on Thursday, October 19, to allow students the flexibility to attend as well.

Donations for Conference Dinners
Our conference nights this year are October 18 & 19. We would love to serve our teachers dinner during their break times. Please let Jim Holtrop know if you would be willing to donate a crock pot of soup or chili for October 18, or if you would like to give a monetary donation to go towards the meals on those nights. Thanks for making this happen.
