WA Men’s Prayer

On the second Saturday of every month, the men from Wheaton Academy meet to pray for our community and hear from one of our faculty/staff members. Please join us Saturday, September 9. This month we will hear from Wheaton Academy teacher Eric Bowling. Light refreshments are served.

Off-Campus Learning Day
Monday, September 11
Once again this year, we are excited to provide our students with the opportunity to participate in Off-Campus Learning Days. These days afford our students time for uninterrupted learning on days they typically would have off for in-service/teacher conferences. Additionally, our Off-Campus Learning Days will prepare our students to seamlessly continue in their classes during snow/inclement weather days.

Our first Off-Campus Learning Day this year will take place on Monday, September 11. Students should plan to allocate the same amount of time for schoolwork as they would for a traditional on-campus day (approximately 7 hours). Teachers will make expectations clear to our students, and they will be able to access all work via OnCampus.

Glow Dance
Friday, September 15
9:30-11:00 pm
Student Council would like to invite all WA students to our annual Glow Dance on September 15. It is the night of our first home football game and the theme is Neon Night. The dance will be from 9:30-11:00 pm in the field house. It will include snacks, glow mini golf, and glow games. Tickets will be on sale in the atrium during lunch, September 11-15, for $15.00 and $20.00 at the door that night. Push coin is available. See you all at the football game!!

WA Women’s Saturday Prayer

Every third Saturday women from the Wheaton Academy community meet to pray for our school. Please join us on Saturday, September 16 at 9:00 a.m. in the white chapel for our first prayer time of the school year. Light refreshments are served.

WA Women’s Prayer Brunch
Tuesday, September 19|
9-11 am
You are invited to the WA Women’s Prayer Brunch. We will gather together for a time of informal fellowship, introductions to the Women’s Prayer Group format, and prayer for our WA Community. Please email Jodi Bauer at jodisuebauer@gmail.com to sign up to attend. The brunch is free; however, we kindly ask that you sign up to attend to assist with our planning. Beverages will be provided, but the rest of the brunch is potluck, so when you sign up to attend, please let us know if you would like to bring a dish to pass. Some brunch ideas are muffins, breakfast casseroles, fruit, sweet bread, or salad.

WA Women’s Prayer
First Tuesday of the Month

You are invited to join us for WA Women’s Prayer! We are a group of Wheaton Academy women that includes current moms, legal guardians, grandmothers, staff, and alumni who gather together to pray for our WA community. We gather on the first Tuesday of the month from 1:30-2:30 pm in the Wheaton Academy Library, located in the Academic Building on campus. We follow a “Mom’s in Prayer International” prayer format and pray for the students, staff, faculty, and administration of Wheaton Academy. If you are interested in finding out more about WA Women’s Prayer or to be added to the mailing list for Prayer Group meetings, please feel free to reach out to Jodi Bauer at: jodisuebauer@gmail.com to learn more. We hope you will join us.

On the first Tuesday of the month: October 3, November 7, December 5, January 9, February 6, March 5, April 2, May 7. These meetings will be held in the Wheaton Academy Library from 1:30-2:30 pm.

How can we help equip our kids to have a Christian worldview in an increasingly secularized culture? Join us on November 14 to hear from author, singer, and apologist Alisa Childers. She will share tips about how Christian parents can teach their kids discernment by exposing them to bad ideas in an age-appropriate manner and teaching them to analyze media from a biblical perspective. WA Appreciation Team
Allow us to introduce ourselves. We are the WA Appreciation Team, a group of parent volunteers who plan, organize, and host two events during the school year for teachers and staff. These events help express our gratitude for all the ways teachers and staff not only teach, but inspire, nurture, and guide our kids throughout the school year. The WA Appreciation Team manages these events on behalf of ALL Wheaton Academy families and represents our collective gratitude.

We are already planning our first event, in December, where we serve coffee, donuts, and a Christmas blessing. You will also be hearing from us this spring, as we begin to plan an appreciation luncheon in April.

These events are funded solely through contributions from the school community (which are completely optional and not tax-deductible). Please click on the CheddarUp link to provide funds that will contribute towards making these events possible. Thank you!

Trap Team
Parents, did you know that Wheaton Academy has a competitive precision team shooting club that meets on Tuesday evenings and Saturday middays in both the fall and spring seasons at the St. Charles Sportsmen’s Club in Elburn?

Trap Shooting is a team sport with a strong individual and team component designed to emphasize safety and improve accuracy when using firearms.

At least one parent must have an active FOID card for anyone interested in shooting this season. A shooting membership and safety course is offered by St. Charles Sportsmen’s Club Saturday, September 16 at 9:45 a.m. and is required to participate. Existing shooters’ first practice is Tuesday, September 12 at 5:45 p.m. and new members begin Saturday, September 16 at 11:45 a.m. Hope to see you there!

A Welcome from our Principal
This week has been full of excitement, fun, and learning. From Freshman Orientation to the first day of classes, to the Connect Retreats and special assemblies, we are thrilled to have our students back on campus for the new school year! As we seek to build community, we look forward to seeing students pursue excellence both inside and outside the classroom. Our prayer is that we will be a community that serves others. Ultimately, we want to see our students grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ this year, so that God may be given glory in all that happens here.

Although Wheaton Academy does not have swim practices together, we do go to the Sectional Meet with students who practice and participate on club teams. Girl’s Swimming is in the fall (Sectional Meet on Saturday, November 4) and Boy’s Swimming is a winter sport (Sectional Meet on Saturday, February 17). If your son or daughter is interested in participating, please contact Mr. Mack at kmack@wheatonacademy.org.

Coaching, Conversations, Connections
The Center for Lifelong Learning is offering coaching for both parents and students providing space (in the Armour building) for conversations and connections before school starts.

45-minute sessions are available in August with certified executive functioning coach, Holly Taritas. She will provide executive functioning assessments for the parent and child. Great for middle school – high school. If you are interested in starting the school year off strong by understanding why executive functioning skills matter sign up at Schedule – The Center for Lifelong Learning.

Parents who have children planning to try out for any Fall Sports must have their student’s Athletic Packet and a valid physical uploaded onto Magnus. On August 7, when tryouts begin, if they are missing either of these forms loaded onto Magnus they will not be allowed to try out. This is very important and must be completed…No exceptions.

Executive Functioning Workshops
The Center for Lifelong Learning is hosting two executive functioning workshops this summer. These workshops will be over three days (in the Armour Building) and will focus on executive functioning strengths and weaknesses for school readiness.

Choose from:
Tuesdays – July 25, August 1 & 8 from 9-9:45 am. or
Wednesdays – July 26, August 2 & 9 from 10-10:45 am.

Summer Mission Trip Opportunity – Kids Alive Dominican Republic
This summer, Phil Strzalka, Sally Strzalka, and Val Gregersen will be taking two teams of students to the Dominican Republic to serve with Kids Alive. The teams will be doing art, sports, devotionals, and life skills/job skills training with students from 6th grade to 12th grade in a summer camp setting. We will also plan some fun team activities. We recently had some spots open up. Students can choose to go either week or for both weeks: July 15th – 22nd in Jarabocoa or July 22nd – 29th in Caraballo. Registration for the JULY/AUGUST ACT/SAT Prep Class is now open
This small group class, taught by Cheryl Koslosky, will be a comprehensive overview of both college admission tests. It will include tips and strategies as well as how to apply them to practice test questions. Materials will be provided.

Dates for the class: 9:00 am-11:00 am Mondays and Wednesdays (July 24, 26, 31, August 2, 7, and 9)

Please join us this evening for a time of worship and prayer over our graduating seniors. Cap and gowns will not be worn during Baccalaureate however if you want to bring them for photo opportunities you are welcome to do so. A friend of Wheaton Academy, Molly Grace, is an amazing photographer and is offering FREE cap and gown pictures in front of the white Alumni Chapel before Baccalaureate from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Just walk over to the white chapel before the ceremony for photos. For families that rented the book bundle, please make sure your student returns their books today in the Commons. Books returned after today will be charged a late fee. Please see Jenn Trott with questions.

Technology Update – Last Day to Return Surfaces is Today!
After every four years, we update our student technology, so Wheaton Academy will no longer use the Microsoft Surface Pro 6 for student-assigned laptops. This year we are pleased to offer the option of keeping the Surface Pro for a fee of $75; simply keep the laptop, and the fee will be charged to your Tuition Management account. Students who do not return the laptop, keyboard, and charger in good condition by noon on Friday, June 2, will be charged the $75 fee. Please note that software licenses for Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Cloud are not included. Those will stop working. Students are best served by factory resetting their Surface Pro (in Settings, Update & Security, Recovery) and using a personal Microsoft account. Questions? ALL Families: 2023-2024 Tuition payments due June 5
The first tuition payment for the 2023-2024 school year is due June 5. On May 17, families should have received their invoice email notification from customerservice@blackbaud.school. Families on ACH payments will receive an email prior to debit 10 days before the due date.

Please email sdede@wheatonacademy.org if you have any questions regarding the invoiced amount or would like to change your payment plan.

Three payment plan options are available: 1-payment, 2-payments, and 12-payments. Multiple payment plans have financing fees: $175 for a 2-payment plan, and $380 for a 12-payment plan.

New One-Way Traffic Pattern on Campus Starting June 5
We wanted to make you aware of some upcoming changes to our campus as construction begins to make way for exciting updates. Our campus will have a new, one-way traffic pattern during this season of construction: all traffic must enter campus only from Hawthorne and all traffic must exit only onto Prince Crossing. This traffic pattern begins Monday, June 5.

Summer Office Hours
Wheaton Academy’s offices will be open in June from 7:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m., and in July from 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. with the following exceptions:
Monday, June 19 offices closed for Juneteenth.
Monday & Tuesday, July 3 & 4 offices closed for Independence Day.
July 7,14, 21, and 28 offices closed on Fridays in July.

Summer Academy
Summer Academy starts Thursday, June 8. Teachers and room numbers will be posted in the Atrium and in Student Services on the first day. If you have not received any information regarding Summer Academy and had planned on your student taking summer classes, please contact Angie Roberts, aroberts@wheatonacademy.org, as soon as possible.

The lunch hour will be from 12:00 to 1:00 pm each day for all classes. Students can purchase their lunch with their Pushcoin account. If you have not received your Pushcoin code to set up an account, please contact Angie Roberts. Instructions regarding Pushcoin setup may be found here: https://families.wheatonacademy.org/food-services/pushcoin/. Students may also bring their own lunch.

Summer Serve
Come and serve at Wheaton Academy this summer! Summer Serve provides an opportunity to volunteer in a variety of capacities, make an impact on the presentation of our school facilities, and help with projects to control costs to allow for a smooth transition into the fall. Summer serve will be June 19-21 and July 10-12. You can sign up for just a day, or come for more, as we get the school ready for the next school year! If those dates don’t work with your schedule you can also suggest dates you are available to serve. Sign up using this form to join us this summer.

Ivy Propagation
Do you have a green thumb? We would like to propagate as much of the Academy Hall ivy as possible to save for future use. If you have any interest in helping with the propagation process, please contact Rachel Chaney.
