Our next Football and Family Night is tonight! Bring the family for dinner at The Shack and enjoy the football game. Wheaton Academy will play against Aurora Catholic at 7:30 pm. Shack opens at 6:30 with pulled pork, Shack-n-Cheese, hot dogs, brats, cinnamon rolls, and snacks. The theme for the night is Blackout, so wear all black and support the team!

WA Men’s Prayer
Saturday, September 10
8:00 a.m.
Alumni White Chapel

On the second Saturday of every month, the men from Wheaton Academy meet to pray for our community and hear from one of our faculty/staff members. Please join us Saturday, September 10. This month we will hear from Wheaton Academy teacher Justin Swider. Light refreshments are served.

Off-Campus Learning Day
Monday, September 12
Once again this year, we are excited to provide our students with the opportunity to participate in Off-Campus Learning Days. These days afford our students time for uninterrupted learning on days they typically would have off for in-service/teacher conferences. Additionally, our Off-Campus Learning Days will prepare our students to seamlessly continue in their classes during snow/inclement weather days.

Our first Off-Campus Learning Day this year will take place on Monday, September 12. Students should plan to allocate the same amount of time for schoolwork as they would for a traditional on-campus day (approximately 7 hours). Teachers will make expectations clear to our students, and they will be able to access all work via OnCampus.

Kingdom Community Parent Meeting
Wednesday, September 14
7:00 p.m.
Library

All parents are invited to the first Kingdom Community parent meeting next Wednesday, September 14, from 7:00-8:00 p.m. in the Library. Our desire is that everyone would have a sense of belonging and would flourish here at Wheaton Academy and in God’s greater Kingdom. At our parent meetings, we reflect on scripture, learn from each other, and pray for our students. Other scheduled meetings for this semester are October 26 and November 16. Please contact Brian Hogan at bhogan@wheatonacademy.org if you have questions.

Stories of Vietnam: A Documentary Trip (New Winterim Trip Added this Fall)
This trip is a special collaboration project with the International Boarding Program, for the purpose of building bridges with our growing family network in Vietnam. We will be hosted by WA families in Hanoi, who will take us on a journey to experience firsthand the stories that influence modern society in Vietnam — stories of history, economics, and value systems. Following our stay in Hanoi, we will take public transportation through the countryside of Northern Vietnam, traveling to the mountain villages and rice terraces of Sapa, where we will experience a very different perspective with the ethnic minorities and farming communities of this iconic travel destination. Students will be expected to play a highly proactive role in the relational aspects and documentation of this trip. Experience with videography, editing, and social media preferred. As of September 8, 2022, Vietnam does NOT require COVID vaccinations, COVID testing, or a quarantine period before entering the country.

Surface Needs
Replacement Surface pens, batteries, and chargers are available for sale in the Wheaton Academy I.T. Department, using PushCoin as payment.

Donations and Volunteers Needed for Homecoming Tailgate
Project Lead Global is hosting a Homecoming family tailgate fundraiser before the Thursday night football game on September 22 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. All proceeds raised will go towards the 24 vulnerable children Wheaton Academy sponsors in the DR and Haiti through Kids Alive International.  We are looking for donations of food and supplies and parent volunteers to help assist in preparing and serving the food and helping with clean-up. Please click here to sign up to donate and/or serve.   If you have any questions please contact, Valerie Gregersen.

Local Service Opportunity
Project Lead LOCAL will be working closely with the Replanted ministry this year, and we are hoping to get both students and their families involved in service!

Replanted serves foster and adoptive families in the Chicagoland area.  Replanted will be hosting support groups for foster and adoptive parents once a month – on the 3rd Friday of the month, from 6:00-8:00 pm at Church of the Rez in Wheaton.  We are looking for volunteers to serve in the children’s program while their parents meet in small groups.  This would entail working with kids ages 0-12, and leading games, activities, and crafts. There will only be 8 groups meeting from September – May throughout the year.

It is a great way to work with and support kids of all different backgrounds and to have fun while serving in an important and life-giving ministry.  This is also ideal for any students who have an interest in psychology, social work, or education in the future!

To sign up and learn more, please contact Hollee Ball at Hball@wheatonacademy.org, or 630-562-7568.

Upcoming Opportunities to Serve During Homecoming
We are coming upon some of our busiest days and greatest time of need for volunteers. Homecoming (September 19-24) is around the corner! We invite you to review these sign-ups and see if any are of interest to you. We especially need help to serve our Wheaton Academy Alumni. Please consider volunteering today so we can adequately plan these events. We can’t do this without the help of our parent community! Thank you for serving Wheaton Academy with your time and talents.
