Course Selection and Registration
The Registration Process
We are excited to work with you to create a customized class schedule for your student! Our goal is to ensure your student is properly placed in classes that will provide the best learning environment, meet freshman-year learning standards, and foster your student’s passions for the future.
Here’s how it works:
Freshman Placement Recommendations
Placement recommendations for English, Math, Science, Spanish, Chinese, and French is determined by Wheaton Academy Department Heads after reviewing information gained through the placement test.
Annual Reassessment
Class placements are reviewed each year to ensure your student is meeting their education goals. If you have questions or concerns about their proposed placement, we will gladly address them during the registration meeting.
Important Dates
- Spring – Meet with Student Services for this freshman registration meeting
- Early Summer – The master schedule of class offerings will be available.
- Mid to Late July – Students’ final schedule with class order (periods 1-7) will be available.
Individual Service Plan (ISP)
*Any student with an Individual Service Plan (ISP) will be contacted by the Student Services team to create an ISP once they have registered for classes.
Certified Birth Certificate
Illinois law requires that all enrolled families show a certified copy of the student’s birth certificate to the school. Please bring this certified copy to your registration meeting.
Registration Meeting Checklist
The following tasks will be completed during your one-on-one registration meeting with a member of our Student Services team.
- Complete Placement Tests prior to Registration Meeting
- Ensure a copy of your student’s certified Birth Certificate
- Pick classes
- Sign “Release of Records”
- Update Contact Information and Emergency Contacts as needed
- Consider Co-Curricular Involvement
- Register for Summer Academy (optional)

*These are required one-semester courses that must be completed by the end of the freshman year. Students may have the opportunity to fit additional elective course/s in their schedules during the school year if they take classes during the Summer Academy.
