Off-Campus Learning Day
Monday, September 14

Our faculty and staff continue to learn a lot about how to be most effective in teaching in-person learners and virtual learners simultaneously.  As you can imagine, it is more complex than teaching all in-person learners or all virtual learners.  Therefore, we have decided to make Monday, September 14,  an off-campus learning day for students and a professional development day for teachers.  There will be no in-person classes that day, so classes/lessons will be virtual for all students.  These classes will not be synchronous, so students can access work and lessons anytime after 9:00 a.m.  Please adjust your calendars accordingly.

Wheaton Academy Online Auction
Each year Wheaton Academy hosts the annual Todd Beamer Benefit Golf Outing in honor of 9/11 hero and WA alumnus, Todd Beamer. Traditionally, the outing is followed by a dinner and live auction. This year, in an effort to include more of our Wheaton Academy family, we are offering an online auction as well. Auction items can be viewed, and bid on, at the following link: https://wheatonacademy.org/give/tbgo/

Commons
All parents are invited to an informational meeting about Kingdom Community Wednesday, September 16, from 7:00-8:00 p.m. in the Commons. While our world seems increasingly divided, we want to create an environment for listening, learning, and dialogue that honors one another and reflects unity in the body of Christ.  In this meeting, we will share the vision, purpose, and plans for our Kingdom Community initiative and spend time praying that God would bless us in this pursuit.

General News

COVID-19 Update
We continue to be pleased with how well our students are doing with the guidelines set out for them.  We are also thankful to report that there were no positive cases of COVID-19 among our school community this week.

We will continue to enforce practices to respond to potential COVID cases as follows:

  • Students and staff who are ill with COVID-like symptoms will promptly be placed in a separate supervised area away from others until they can be sent home.
  • We are continuously sanitizing high-touch surfaces.
  • As we receive more information from the Department of Public Health and other entities, we will implement additional recommendations and guidelines and will communicate them to families and staff members.

As always, everyone should monitor their health and stay at home if they develop symptoms. Sick persons should contact their health care provider to determine if testing is needed. Students and staff members are asked to remain home until they receive a negative COVID-19 test result or an alternative diagnosis. Students and staff who have a fever of 100.4 must stay home and may not return until fever-free for 24 hours without fever-reducing medication. If your student has had close contact with a known case of COVID-19, keep the student at home and notify your primary healthcare provider, Wheaton Academy, and your local health department. In that instance, the student must self-quarantine for 14 days.

Sophomore Class Ring Sales
On Tuesday, September 8, during Advisory, the sophomores will receive information and see a presentation regarding the purchasing of class rings. Ask them to take a look at the packet for all of the Jostens information. A representative from Jostens will be on campus during lunch on Friday, September 11 & 18 to take ring orders.

Parent Volunteers Needed
Wheaton Academy is making plans for the Student Homecoming week of September 21-26! Student Council and the administration are planning an amazing week of celebration within the CDC guidelines!! We would appreciate parents to help us make this a possibility. We need help on the evening of Wednesday, September 23, at Sonny Acres and on Saturday evening, September 26, with the student event on campus. If you can help, please e-mail Jim Holtrop. Thank you for always making Wheaton Academy a success.

Book Bundle Reminder
If your student’s schedule changed once school began and you rented the book bundle through Wheaton Academy, just a reminder that all books of courses dropped need to be returned. You may hold on to them until the end of the school year and return all books together, or you may have your student give them to Jenn Trott in the front office to return for you now. Please make sure your student’s name is on a post-it note if you decide to return it now.

WA Appreciation Committee
A team of volunteer parents has joined to organize ways to show gratitude to the Wheaton Academy Faculty and Staff on behalf of all WA families. This is a newly formed committee, and we would like to introduce them!

Please click here to learn what is planned and how to contribute toward these efforts. All collected funds are not considered to be a donation toward Wheaton Academy.

WA Tutoring Center
Does your child need a tutor? Visit WA-Tutoring.org to schedule sessions with qualified tutors in all subject areas, including SAT and ACT prep. The Tutoring Center is conveniently located on Wheaton Academy’s campus, so students are able to meet during their study hall or after school.

College Corner

Parents of Seniors and Seniors: On Wednesday, October 14, Wheaton Academy is planning to have an all-school testing day.  An SAT Day test for seniors will run concurrently with the PSAT for 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students.  Senior SAT test results can be used for college admissions and scholarship purposes.  Consider doing some test preparation via Khan Academy as it is free and can be linked with your College Board account.  The Wheaton Academy Tutoring Center is also available for test prep help as well.
