General News

COVID-19 Update
As we end week four of the school year, we remain thankful for the general health and well-being of our student body.  We appreciate the increased efforts of parents and students to complete the health certification process by 7:45 a.m. each day.  Over the last week, we had five individuals test positive for COVID-19.  As we have done in previous weeks, we have contacted those who were in close contact with these individuals and asked them to quarantine at home for the appropriate time.  As an added precaution, we chose to limit after school activities yesterday and today by canceling all sports activities, not in season.

We will continue to enforce practices to respond to potential COVID cases as follows:

  • Students and staff who become ill with COVID-like symptoms will promptly be placed in a separate supervised area away from others until they can be sent home.
  • We are regularly sanitizing high-touch surfaces.
  • As we receive more information from the local health department and other entities, we will consider implementing additional recommendations and guidelines and will communicate them to families and staff members.

As always, everyone should monitor their health and stay at home if they develop COVID-19 symptoms. If symptoms develop, persons should contact their health care provider to determine if testing is needed. Students and staff who have a fever of 100.4 must stay home and may not return until fever-free for 24 hours without fever-reducing medication. Staff members or students who test positive for COVID-19 (or are suspected of having COVID-19) will not be permitted to return until they have met the CDC’s criteria to discontinue home isolation.  If your student has had close contact with a known case of COVID-19, keep the student at home and notify your primary healthcare provider, Wheaton Academy, and your local health department. In that instance, the student must self-quarantine for 14 days.

Annual Asbestos Notice – September 2020
This notice meets a legal requirement to inform you annually that Wheaton Academy continues to meet all federal and state laws concerning asbestos in schools.  All of our educational facilities have been thoroughly inspected, and inspections continue bi-annually by a state-certified asbestos firm, as is required by law.  We continue to carry out all other specific requirements of the “AHERA” legislation, including the maintenance of a management plan.  Our management plan is available for your review in the business office located in the Armour building during normal business hours.  We welcome your questions and input as we continue to meet the necessary requirements and seek to implement any necessary precautions.
