Placement Test Info

We are excited to help place your student in classes that will both challenge and inspire. Class placement is a multi-step process.

The first step requires your student to take a placement test. We host several opportunities for students to take the placement test in-person at Wheaton Academy.

  • The English and Math Placement Tests are required for all full time students.

    • The English test is a two-part test. Each part is 50 minutes, including selected passages for reading comprehension analysis and a brief essay.
    • The Math test is a 60 minute skill-based test that assesses proficiency. This test also informs Physics placement for freshmen and Science placement for transfers.

  • The World Language Placement Test or Interview is required for students who:

    • Plan to enroll in Chinese II, Spanish II, French II, or higher-level courses.
    • Speak a second language at home and wish to study that language as a course.

  • Classical Humanities Cohort requires a modified writing exam. If your student is interested in the program, please note that interest on the placement test date form below. Our registrar will then ensure that your student receives the correct writing prompt.

Are you a Homeschool Partnership student?
Partnership students who plan to take Math and/or English at Wheaton Academy are also required to take a placement test.

What to Bring to Your Placement Test

The placement test take students approximately three hours to complete. Here are a few tips to help prepare your student:

  • Encourage them to not be too nervous and get a good night’s sleep.
  • Please ask your student to bring several #2 pencils as the tests use scantrons.
  • Students do not need to bring a calculator.
