Health Updates

Coronavirus UpdateWheaton Academy is continually monitoring the news and advisories concerning the coronavirus. With that in mind, we would ask that if your student needs to stay home due to illness, please state what symptoms your student has when you call the attendance line.  Also, over the weekend, Wheaton Academy will be doing an extra high-contact surface clean to our classrooms as a precautionary measure. As a reminder,

  • Your child should stay home if he/she is sick until at least 24 hours after there is no longer a fever or signs of a fever (without the use of fever-reducing medications).
  • Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue.
  • Wash hands with soap and water or use hand sanitizer when soap and water are not available.
  • Stay home if you have been exposed to a family or household member who is sick.
  • Cover your nose and mouth with a mask or cloth if you are sick and around people or at a mass gathering in a community where the pandemic is already occurring.
  • Please consult your healthcare provider if you have a concern for yourself or a family member shows symptoms of illness.
  • View this link for other helpful items in combatting illness at home:  https://www.cdc.gov/nonpharmaceutical-interventions/home/index.html

We are in communication with the DuPage County Health Department and the Illinois Department of Public Health. At this time, IDPH has indicated that current risk to us in Illinois remains low and has not recommended canceling classes/mass gatherings.

As with any global outbreak, the situation is rapidly evolving, and recommendations are subject to change. We will keep parents informed as new information for our county and school district emerges.

For more background information on the coronavirus, please use the following links to the DuPage County Health Department and The Centers for Disease Control.

Magnus Update
Please update your student’s current medications throughout the year as they start or stop a prescription. Your student’s list of medications can be found in Magnus Health under the Vital Health Record. This information must be accurate for the school nurse to administer approved OTC medications and to provide information in the event of a medical emergency.

Medication at School
Students are not allowed to carry any medication on their person or keep medications in their school lockers. According to the Illinois Department of Public Health, any prescription and non-prescription medication must be kept in the Health Office in the original pharmaceutical container. Please note: Properly documented asthma, epinephrine, and diabetes medications are an exception to this guideline.

DuPage County Notification of Registered Child Sex Offenders
A list of offenders is available from the Principal’s office upon request.

Technology, Faith, and Family – Parent & Teen Seminar
Saturday, March 7
9:00 a.m.
White Alumni Chapel
Your student lives in a world surrounded and infused by technology. Communication is instant. Friendships take place “online” sometimes even more than in “real life.” This “connected” world brings new opportunities and new dangers. How do we navigate these together as a family?

Join Dr. Rob Rienow on Saturday, March 7, at Wheaton Academy, in the white Alumni Chapel, as we wrestle with these topics in a free seminar experience, “Technology, Faith, and Family.” We will explore essential biblical principles that will help your family successfully navigate this new world of technology, social media, and online life. This is an event for parents and teens, but if your teen cannot attend, parents are still encouraged to come.

While this is a free event, we do ask that you RSVP to events@visionaryfam.com with the number of people from your family who will be attending.

Athletics

Spring Season is Off and Running!!
The spring team and individual photos will be taken on Monday, March 16.  Coaches were given the order sheets to hand out to their athletes.  Please complete the order form and have your child bring it with them on the day of the photos. There will be additional order forms on-site at the pictures if you forget.  If you have any questions, please contact Dawn Hamm at 630-562-7565.

The Athletic Department will not be making any decisions to cancel any spring competitions until after 2:00 p.m. on the day of the competition.  Your child’s coach will be informed and will be communicating with your child.  Please contact your child for any information regarding cancelations and rescheduling of any games or matches that are not able to be played.
