General News

Health Updates:
Magnus Update – Please update your student’s current medications throughout the year as they start or stop a prescription. Your student’s list of medications can be found in Magnus Health under the Vital Health Record. This information must be accurate for the school nurse to administer approved OTC medications and to provide information in the event of a medical emergency.

Medication at School – Students are not allowed to carry any medication on their person or keep medications in their school lockers. According to the Illinois Department of Public Health, any prescription and non-prescription medication must be kept in the Health Office in the original pharmaceutical container. Please note: Properly documented asthma, epinephrine, and diabetes medications are an exception to this guideline.

Coronavirus Update – Wheaton Academy is continually monitoring the news and advisories concerning the coronavirus. We are in communication with the DuPage County Health Department and the Illinois Department of Public Health. All are following up on the guidance issued recently by the CDC. At this time, IDPH has indicated that current risk to us in Illinois remains low and has not recommended canceling classes/mass gatherings.

As with any global outbreak, the situation is rapidly evolving, and recommendations are subject to change. We will keep parents informed as new information for our county and school district emerges.

In the interim, please use the following non-pharmaceutical interventions (NPIs), which are everyday preventive actions that can help keep you and others from getting and spreading respiratory illnesses. They include:

  • Your child should stay home if he/she is sick until at least 24 hours after there is no longer a fever or signs of a fever (without the use of fever-reducing medications).
  • Covering coughs and sneezes with a tissue.
  • Washing hands with soap and water or using hand sanitizer when soap and water are not available.
  • Staying home if you have been exposed to a family or household member who is sick.
  • Covering your nose and mouth with a mask or cloth if you are sick and around people or at a mass gathering in a community where the pandemic is already occurring.
  • Please consult your healthcare provider if you have a concern for yourself or a family member shows symptoms of illness.

For more background information on the coronavirus, please use the following links to the DuPage County Health Department and The Centers for Disease Control.

Seasonal Influenza – Seasonal influenza is still active. We ask that you keep your student home if they are sick with a fever, vomiting, or diarrhea. Students must be symptom-free for 24 hours without the use of any fever-reducing medication before returning to school. Thank you for your help!

As we prepare for the 2020-2021 academic year, this is a reminder that current Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors will be automatically re-enrolled as part of the Continuous Enrollment Policy.  We look forward to continuing to build a relationship with your student over the course of his or her entire high school experience.  In March 2020, we will bill the re-enrollment deposit of $175 to your 2019-2020 Smart Tuition account, and this deposit will be applied to the 2020-2021 tuition bill.  (Please include the Smart Tuition ID number from the invoice when remitting payment.)

Technology, Faith, and Family – Parent & Teen Seminar
Saturday, March 7
9:00 a.m.
White Alumni Chapel
Your student lives in a world surrounded and infused by technology. Communication is instant. Friendships take place “online” sometimes even more than in “real life.” This “connected” world brings new opportunities and new dangers. How do we navigate these together as a family?

Join Dr. Rob Rienow on Saturday, March 7, at Wheaton Academy, in the white Alumni Chapel, as we wrestle with these topics in a free seminar experience, “Technology, Faith, and Family.” We will explore essential biblical principles that will help your family successfully navigate this new world of technology, social media, and online life. This is an event for parents and teens, but if your teen cannot attend, parents are still encouraged to come.

While this is a free event, we do ask that you RSVP to events@visionaryfam.com with the number of people from your family who will be attending.

Athletics

If your child is planning on trying out for a spring sports team and has yet to participate on a sports team this year,  now is the time to make sure they have their physical and athletic packet paperwork completed. Tryouts for the spring season begin March 2, and your child will not be allowed to participate without this paperwork updated and completed in Magnus.
