Will You Help us Finish the Year Strong?
Did you know that for the 2019-2020 academic year, Wheaton Academy was able to provide over $1.6M in financial assistance to our families? This would not be possible, however, without the generosity of our faithful supporters. Would you please help us finish the year strong by prayerfully considering an end-of-year financial gift? Your gift on behalf of our mission directly impacts our students as they are molded and shaped into young men and women who understand every discipline in light of the truth of the Gospel. Thank you for partnering with us in our mission as the Lord leads you. Click here to provide a gift.

A Note from the Business Office
Dear Wheaton Academy Family,

We want to take this opportunity to ensure our school community is aware of an incident that took place on the Wheaton Academy campus over the summer.  On two separate occasions during the month of July, the Wheaton Academy mailbox was burglarized, and an unspecified number of checks were stolen by the perpetrators.  We discovered in recent months the perpetrators fraudulently signed the checks and illegally deposited the funds into a non-Wheaton Academy account.  We have contacted the West Chicago Police Department and the West Chicago Post Office to report these activities. In addition, we have installed a locked mailbox on campus to prevent this from happening further.

If you sent a check to Wheaton Academy during the month of July, it is possible the check was included among the checks which were stolen.  It is relatively simple to identify whether the check was fraudulently cashed.  Please check the endorsement on the back of the check.  If the endorsement has a handwritten signature, the check was not received or cashed by Wheaton Academy.

If one of your checks was fraudulently cashed, you will need to file a claim with your bank. In some cases, the bank will want Wheaton Academy to sign an Affidavit of Forgery.  Please contact Pamela Larsen at plarsen@wheatonacademy.org or 630-562-7515 if you have a form you need to be signed.  Your bank will file a claim with the bank who erroneously cashed the check.  The bank who cashed the check will return the funds to your bank, who will subsequently return the funds to your account. Please note because of the investigation the banks have to conduct this process can take up to 30 – 60 days to complete.

If you have family or friends who donated funds to a Winterim Missions Trip, we recommend you share this information with them and confirm any checks they sent have been accounted for accordingly.

While this is certainly an unfortunate situation, we are thankful the incidents were quickly identified to prevent further theft from occurring. Please continue to keep Wheaton Academy, the faculty, staff, and students in your prayers as we endeavor together to nurture growth in students through relationships, excellence, and service to the glory of God.

Pamela Larsen

PSAT Testing, Wednesday, October 16
Parents, please make a note of some important details for our October 16 PSAT testing date:

  1. Please make sure your student has a good breakfast that morning.
  2. Testing will occur from 9:00 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., and students will be dismissed after the testing.
  3. There will not be lunch available at WA this day due to the early dismissal.
  4. Students must bring two #2 pencils and a PSAT approved calculator .
  5. Students will not be able to check their cell phones for the entire time of the test (9:00 a.m.-12:15 p.m.).
  6. We cannot send a visitor to a classroom once the testing has begun.

So, snacks are recommended during breaks.

Students received a PSAT/ NMSQT Student Guide in Advisory a couple of weeks ago.  We recommend students review that booklet or view this information online at https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org.  Important information is given in this booklet such as the reminder that there is no penalty for guessing, and students are encouraged to give their best answer to every question.

If you have any questions prior to the PSAT testing date, please contact Gina Churchill, the PSAT Coordinator.

Senior Class Training, Wednesday, October 16
On October 16, we are excited to be able to provide our senior class with training, from a Biblical worldview, for engaging others in difficult conversations about issues in our culture. We believe this training is consistent with our commitment to College Readiness as well as to building a Kingdom Community. The training will focus on holding fast to Biblical truth when interacting with people who hold different views. Karen Jones, from Sacred Leadership Solutions, will be on campus to engage our seniors in a workshop.

This workshop for the senior class will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., concurrent with our all-school testing for other students. This half-day of school will offer benefits equivalent to a conference where intense learning takes place in a compacted time. We are excited about the unique opportunity this workshop will provide for our senior class in helping them to develop as Christian leaders and influencers.

Student/Teacher Conferences
It’s that time of year again for student/teacher conferences, and this is a very important part of our partnership with you as parents. In order to make the scheduling process easier for you, it will take place online beginning Tuesday, October 15 at noon, and ending Friday, October 18 at 11:59 p.m. Parents will schedule conferences online through MyConferenceTime.com. This allows parents to schedule and manage their own conference times. Please email Gina Churchill if you have any questions regarding this process.
