Health Department

Wheaton Academy works with the DuPage County health department to ensure that all food served at WA is fresh, healthy, and safe to eat for all students, faculty, and staff, each and every day. Our food service manager, Ruth Lindstedt, is certified by the State of Illinois health department in food safety and sanitation. The county health department visits WA two or three times per school year to help ensure that we continue to be in compliance with state and county guidelines, and to work with us in maintaining a top-notch lunch program. Please see the links below for further information on how the health department works with WA to help us maintain the highest possible standards.

Allergy Guidelines

Wheaton Academy has an allergy policy which states that foods containing nuts not be consumed on WA’s campus or during off-campus activities (games, field trips, tours, etc.). However, because we understand that certain diets require significant protein, we will have one small peanut zone in a portion of the Commons for students who need to eat nuts throughout the school day. That is the only place on campus that nuts of any kind may be eaten. This includes all foods containing nut products like granola bars, candy bars with nuts, cookies with nuts, peanut oil, etc. There is no way to ensure that reactions will never occur, but with your help, we can reduce the risk of reactions.

Food Choices

Wheaton Academy partners with several local restaurants and caterers and is committed to serving nutritious, delicious, and healthy meals every day. We are committed to providing an assortment of tasty choices for a healthy, satisfying lunch for a variety of individual needs. Each day an entrée is served with one or two side items. In addition to the entrée, students have a choice of baked chips or a vegetable; and they may substitute a piece of fruit for a cookie. Water is served with all of our lunches and milk is available on our a la carte line. The a la carte table offers many healthy alternatives to the catered lunch, and many of our students choose from the numerous options available each day. Depending on the season, we have at least two soups available each day, as well as a variety of fresh fruits, yogurt, bagels with cream cheese, string cheese, hard-boiled eggs, and more. Several links have been provided below to assist you in making the healthiest choices possible. We also have a complete salad bar for all students and faculty/staff.
